Kickball is for Grown-Ups Too!

In 1998, the World Adult Kickball Association was founded with the intent to foster social interaction while providing an outlet for physical activity. Good friends Johnny LeHane, David Lowry, and Jimmy Walicek conceptualized this idea in Washington, D.C. They were experiencing nostalgia of college’s ease of meeting new people, while just starting out in their young professional careers. What started as a small kickball game, is now a national organization with leagues in over 35 states. The World Adult Kickball Association, also known as WAKA, thrives under a few core principles. It values positivity, good decision making, having fun, and putting family first.

In Utah, WAKA offers four different leagues. Three of which are kickball, with dodgeball being the last one. Upon visiting the WAKA site, viewers will find a multitude of information. First, instructions on how the game process works can be found alongside a locator tool to test the availability of leagues in every area. Related events are also listed with the ability to buy WAKA store paraphernalia.  Registration is easy. Once you select your league location of choice, just fill out the online form to enter personal data into the system. Yelp.com even rated WAKA with 4.5 stars out of five. Reviewers from all over the country lefts tons of positive comments mentioning that it was a great balance between competitiveness, activity, and fun.

WAKA is not a stranger to charitable efforts. Since it’s founding date, this organization has raised over $400,000 in funds which went to various causes. Two preferred national partners are Keen USA and Kick-it. Keen raises money for cancer research by encouraging kickball involvement, and Kick-it provides free recreational sports for children with disabilities. Not only is kickball just for fun, but it’s also making a philanthropic impact on the world.

The World Adult Kickball Association pushes the boundaries some have placed on the idea of kickball. This sport spans far beyond elementary school playgrounds and right into the hearts of adults everywhere. Search for a league near you and have some laughs while you burn calories.
